Tipster: A new streaming box will feature a super-fast processor A14
Based on this report, an upgraded version of Apple TV will boost gaming but will not bring down the hopes for a cheaper streaming box.
According to Mark Gurman, a noted Apple tipster, the new model will feature a new A14-power CPU and an additional gigabyte of RAM.
The codename J255 is the report. Although it doesn’t provide any additional information about the rumor of Siri’s new remote control, fuelled by an iOS 16 discovery, both elements make it seem like a new model.
Apple is focusing more on gaming, and these improvements will provide better performance and capabilities for its Apple Arcade subscription service.
However, the improved spec sheet might end any chance of an incoming device that is cheaper, as we advocated for.
Following a report by Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst, that suggested an Apple TV with a lower price would be launched in the second half of 2022, and there were hopes for a budget-friendly model.
Apple TV was seen as somewhat neglected by its users, with tvOS 16 barely appearing at WWDC 2022 earlier in the year.
However, these rumors about a new model should, at minimum, alleviate any concerns that it might be discontinued.
Analyze: Does the Apple TV need more power?
TechRadar has been waiting for the possibility that Apple would release a cheaper version of its streaming box for some time.
We love the Apple TV 4K (2021), which supports high-frame-rate HDR and seamless integration with other Apple devices.
The $199 asking price makes it difficult for many home theater enthusiasts to afford. Amazon’s HDR-friendly Fire TV Stick 4K Max is also available at $44.99 and a host of other boxes under $100, making it hard to recommend.
Apple TV is still a great streaming device, but it has the main advantage of playing high-quality games. This potential overhaul will set it apart from the rest of its competitors on this front. It also promises even better graphics if it gets the A14 processor.
